Fountain Hills

Fountain Hills is a beautiful desert town, bordering Scottsdale and offering a sense of serenity that’s hard to find in its neighboring city.   Known most for its luxury real estate, the area actually offers a variety of residential choices including mid-priced townhomes and single family production homes, in addition to its elite custom homes within its many guard gated communities.

Located east of Scottsdale off of Shea Boulevard, Fountain Hills is surrounded on its other sides by the protected lands of the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation and Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community.  Therefore, the peacefulness and gorgeous Sonoran Desert and mountain views appear to be endless.

Landmarks in the town include its famous Fountain Hills Fountain, which was built in 1970 by Robert P. McCulloch and sprays water for about 15 minutes every hour between 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. every day.  The plume launches from a concrete water lily sculpture in the center of a man-made lake, and in ideal conditions, reaches a height of 560 feet (although in normal operation, the full pump system is not used and the fountain reaches a height of approximately 300 feet).  When the fountain was first built, it was the tallest fountain in the world and held that record for over a decade.

The town of Fountain Hills puts on two annual festivals, the local art fair and the Fountain Hills Great Fair which incorporates arts and a carnival.  It also has a Thanksgiving Day parade and dyes its fountain green each year in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day.

Recreational opportunities nearby include hiking; golfing; tubing on the Salt River; boating and fishing at Saguaro Lake; hoseback riding, cattle drives and hayrides put on by Ft. McDowell Adventures;  and gambling at the Fort McDowell Casino.

Golf courses in Fountain Hills include FireRock (its only private course), Eagle Mountain, Sunridge Canyon, Desert Canyon, and nearby We-ko-pa located in Ft. McDowell.   The first three courses feature beautiful surrounding residential subdivisions with custom homes offering incredible views of both the courses and surrounding mountains.

Although many homes of varying sizes in Fountain Hills are considered more rural and not located within subdivisions, a few other luxury communities exist including Eagle’s NestCrestview and Eagle Ridge.  Some mid-priced neighborhoods include Copperwynd, Westridge and Thunder Ridge; and properties valued below $200,000 are also available including a large selection of townhomes and condominiums.

Homes currently available for sale in Fountain Hills range from $89,900 for a 967-sf remodel built in 1973, to $4,250,000 for an 6,986-sf custom estate in Crestview.  The sales price per sf of homes sold in the last 3 months has ranged from $65 to $425 per sf depending greatly on location.

Homesites currently on the market in Fountain Hills range from $29,900 for 2 small parcels totaling 3,990 sf; to $715,000 for .49 acres in Sunridge.
